August
is a great month for just about anything, but especially for our
favorite vice, reading. There's no better time to unplug and indulge in a
good book. As Sam Keen put it, "Deep summer is when laziness finds
respectability." The long dog days of August afford ample opportunity to
earn the respect of family and friends by settling down to turn a page
or two (or more). This might be the only time of year when you have full
permission to indulge your whims. No assignments, no "you must read
this," just pick up something fun and set your mind in motion.
Everything else can catch up later.

We've cut our teeth as bloggers in 2011-2012, and as of August
11th, we'll have been at it for a full year. Our staff has written over
150 original pieces, and you'll still find new content weekly as we
continue our sophomore effort. In addition to what's online, there are
printouts of some of our favorite pieces available to peruse in the
store.
Don't miss James's recent post
about how readers are finding our store journal online. You might be
surprised at how many random Google searches lead readers to us. Yes,
even the phrase "drugs jungle central america" directs people to one of our posts!
By the way, did you know you can get our Store Journal by email?

We read a lot, and despite
ourselves, we're guilty of playing favorites. For example, this month
both Emma and Cindy are particularly excited about Dave Eggers' new
novel, A Hologram for the King. Follow the link to see more of our booksellers' August recommendations.
