Book Notes: Maggie Stiefvater

I don’t remember what impelled me to initially pick up The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. I know it was before I was working at Island Books. I know it was before I was reading a lot of YA. I know I felt vaguely embarrassed about it, that it wasn’t the sort of thing I “should” be reading, before my “read what you like” revelation.

What I do remember was being utterly, surprisingly, captivated. The Raven Boys begins like a fairy tale, if a fairy tale was set in Henrietta, Virginia, and centered on Blue Sargent, the ungifted daughter of the local clairvoyant, who has reached her 16th year under the regrettable prediction that if she kisses her true love, he’ll die.  continued...
