Storybook Corner with Mark Holtzen

Wednesday, April 13, 2016 - 10:30am to 11:00am

We're bringing in a special guest to join us for our regular Wednesday morning Storybook Corner.

Mark Holtzen is the author of the middle-grade novel The Pig War, set in the beautiful and historic San Juan Islands, and we're proud to introduce him to the Island Books audience along with his new picture book A Ticket to the Pennant.

Before the Seattle Mariners, there were the Seattle Rainiers … This nostalgic, historically accurate picture book follows Huey through the Seattle of 1955 exploring a diverse and charming neighborhood surrounding the baseball stadium. Featuring the vibrant retro illustrations of Larry Gets Lost creator John Skewes, this is a story of baseball, civic pride, and how baseball unites communities.

A Ticket to the Pennant will appeal not just to preschoolers but also to their older siblings (and their parents and grandparents, in fact). Mark's visit falls during spring break for Mercer Island schools, so bring the whole family!
