Island Books

You may have heard we are planning a party for our 40th on Sunday afternoon, Nov 3rd. As Cindy says, this is not a birthday. This is an anniversary that we are celebrating. Island Books' 40th anniversary.  And the party is not going to feature a long-winded blustery speech by the owner. It's going to be a get- together. A pie social. A gathering of like-minded and wondrous people who have played parts large and small in the long life of the store. You all. Old friends. Maybe champagne will loosen tongues and raise spirits. Perhaps pie will prompt laughter and funny stories. We will give out some gifts for those who attend, some prizes for the clever, some cheers for those who have a story to share. Join us. It will be a fun afternoon of friends.

We can't thank you enough for your support all these years.

Warmly and simply,

Roger Page

Owner and Bookseller

Kay's November Pick:

Book of Ages

We read a lot, and despite ourselves, we're guilty of playing favorites.

For example, this month Kay recommends Book of Ages by Jill Lepore, a revealing and fresh look at history through the eyes of Jane Franklin, Benjamin Franklin's youngest sister and dearest correspondent.

Here, our booksellers share their other November recommendations.

Reading-Related Rambles

In addition to Roger's reminiscing this month, our blog also featured a flashback to Island Books in 1986, the latest in our Dance to the Music of Time online book club, and book reviews for Half the Kingdom by Lore Segal and Longbourn by Jo Baker. Don't forget, you can also get our Store Journal by email.

Kiddie Fun

Please join us in the children's section as acclaimed storytellers from all over the Puget Sound region entertain young, often pajama-clad audiences. We'll be your hosts on the first Saturday evening of every month. Most storytellers gear their materials for children three and older—and adults are sure to enjoy it as well! All events start at 6:30pm, usually lasting thirty minutes, and include refreshments.
